Tour du Mont Blanc & Northern Italy, August 2022
Ruthie and I followed up our Northern-Italy-and-Corsica Honeymoon with another European hiking experience in 2022, this time to do the Tour du Mont Blanc and spend some time after in Northern Italy. We mulled over trying to figure something else to do that was more different than our honeymoon and also less basic than doing one of the world's most popular hikes, but we ended up deciding that (paraphrasing a coworker here) "the reason it is considered 'basic' is that it is good" and that we might as well do something we had been wanting to do for a while. We (Ruthie) identified a good company who would book all our hotels, transport our bags, and give us route notes on an iPhone app--and so we were off!
I packed light so instead of lugging around the very effective but quite heavy 24-105 I brought with me to the Dolomites, I borrowed a 35mm f/1.8 lens from my father. It got the job done, though it feels kind of slow and noisy. Thankfully we weren't in a rush, unlike my friends who decided in 2024 to do the same hike as us, but as a trail running experience. Absolutely not.
